Foundation Learning - Award Level 1 Construction

Foundation Learning is all about going at your own pace. You'll get to try some of the different bricklaying techniques, like building cavity walls, brick and breeze-block structures and semi-circle arches. In carpentry, you'll learn how to make the basic woodworking joints and use various tools and machinery. Painting and decorating helps you find out how to prepare surfaces, choose the right paints and learn to wallpaper tricky places and apply different finishes.

You will also be working on a building site during the course and that means you will learn a lot about Health and Safety.

You'll need to be 16 to 19, not in education or working. The course is 16 hours a week for around 22 weeks.
